WITH reference to your letter of the 5th ultimo relative to the collection of

Foreign Office, October 11, 1911. information with regard to the manufacture, sale, and distribution of cocaine in this country in connection with the proposed Opium Conference, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to you herewith a copy of a note from the Netherlands chargé d'affaires, requesting to be furnished with statistics on this subject, in order that printed copies may be prepared for the use of the delegates to the conference.

A letter has been received by this department from the Board of Trade stating that the principal manufacturers of morphia in the United Kingdom have refused to supply any information with regard to the quantity of this drug manufactured in this country.

Sir E. Grey has proposed therefore in a letter to the Board of Trade† (of which a copy is enclosed herewith) to furnish M. van der Goes with the list of exports and re-exports of morphia and cocaine from the United Kingdom during the first six months of 1911, of which a copy was enclosed in the letter from this department of the 30th August last.
